  • Appearance

  • Mathis, if nothing else, is fashion forward. He keeps on trend, and always looks nice. During work, he opts for t shirts, dark jeans, and a smock. No need to get the nice things dirty.
  • Due to his dislike for staring eyes, he tends to wear high collars and long sleeves or jackets in public. If he must, he'll reveal his scarring. He's not embarrassed, but he gets frustrated with prying eyes.
  • He keeps his hair well groomed and styled in a shaggy pomp.
  • His prized poession is his beard.
  • Personality

  • Above all, Mathis is kind. He strives to help others, and guide those in need.
  • He is patient and understanding, never quick to judge.
  • Despite this, he can be wry and has a tongue-in-cheek sense of humor.
  • In the end, though, Mathis is the one to look to when there is a problem.
  • History

    Childhood
  • Mathis De Luca Born and raised on an olive farm in San Casciano, Italy. He was home schooled, which was becoming more popular since the turn of the decade. He worked on the family owned property from the time he began to walk. His father was tough but not mean spirited. His mother; American born; was strict but gentle in her approach. Mathis had six siblings, four sisters and two brothers, himself being the seventh and youngest. A relatively nice upbringing. He had plans to move to Florence when the time was right to attend school for a business degree. The time never came.

  • The Shift
  • The cat was monstrous. Nothing that Mathis had ever seen before. He thought himself crazy for thinking 'cheetah.' For surely it could not have been, the size that it was. It was the size of a stallion, but faster than any horse he'd ever known. One moment, he was yelling for his sister; whom he'd been helping with a harvest; to run. The next, he was being tackled by a great cat. It was all quite a blur, but in the end he gathered that there had been a gunshot, and the cat had fled.
  • His wounds healed. Abnormally so. His family feared him. They could not understand any more than he did what had happened. His sister, the witness to his attack, worst of all. So, he made his decision to leave. Strike out away from those he knew he could hurt, for how could he guarantee their safety when he could not his own?

  • A New Life
  • Ten years does not sound like a long time. For Mathis, it has been a lifetime. He survived alone for a time. He retreated to the mountains, hiding himself deep within the Alps. In a constant battle with himself and the beast that lay within. There were many days he thought to end it all. But wounds healed and the beast within overpowered his senseless urges with the carnal will to survive. Often times, he felt more beast than man.
  • Then he found them. Or rather, they found him. Famiglia. Family. Others like him. Only three, but they were more than friendly strangers that took him in; they were his saviours. His new little Coalition taught him all there was to know. Trained his senses and his will, helped him grow and learn to control. Together, Mathis and his companions traveled Europe. For the first time in his life since the day he was turned, Mathis had learned to accept his inner beast. He even came to like him.

  • The Ruin
  • Alas, good things can never last. The night they were attacked, the Coalition had been sleeping in a small cabin tucked into the outskirts of a Romanian village. They had not sensed them before it was too late. The Rivals came prepared. Silver weapons made in every fashion. From bullets to knives, swords to whips. There was only three of them, and yet, his three companions hadn't even had time to shift before they were dead.
  • Mathis? Mathis had managed it. But only just. The cheetah escaped through a broken window, being lashed sliced at as he went. The bullets missed, but he'd been cut severely around the hips, chest, and forelegs. He was chased by other beasts; wolves the size of ponies; but even wounded he managed to outrun them.
  • These wounds did not heal like the others. The seared and burned and bled. When he found himself miles away and safe from being tracked, the big cat settled in a cave to heal.
  • For months, he nursed himself. Switching between cat and man as needed. The flesh wounds healed and scarred. Most became thin, raised lines across his forearms and shoulders. The hair on his legs hid the ones there. His hips were pretty rough, and there were a few thick, pink ones that still ache even now. Worst of all, though, was the one across his chest. A sword had managed to find a path from his collar bone, diagonally down to just below his rib. It remains pink and shiny, itching at times and visible in los cut shirts.
  • And yet, the wounds were nothing compared to those within. His family was gone. Murdered by people he could not understand. Why had they done it? Had it been for land? Wealth? Pure hatred? They had come with the intention to kill, fully aware that even in their hybrid forms, it would be difficult to take on four cheetahs. Still, they had risked it all. Why? The questions still haunt him now.

  • Rebirth
  • It was with ease that Mathis moved to America. He was eager to leave it all behind. He would never forget; the permanent marks on his body were constant reminders. But Mathis did not want to. Instead, he was eager to grow. To strive to carry on in the wake of his family. It may be overly romantic, but he wished to carry on their memory.
  • So. America it was. More specifically, the place his mother had been born. It's been three years, and Mountainside has offered him more than he could have ever expected. A place to recover, a place to find new friends like himself. A home.
