Power Description
Necromancy
Seeing and communicating with restless spirits after so many years has become second nature to Casey, so long as they wish to be seen and heard; reaching out to more elusive individuals, however, requires a greater deal of concentration and patience on his behalf. An eerie shade of blue consumes his irises with prolonged contact, which also runs the risk of attracting unwanted attention. More than once has Casey experienced a haunting, set upon by the likes of dissonant whispers and troubling apparitions until he managed to rid himself of the offending ghost.

He has never attempted to reanimate a human being.

Dream Walking
Invading others’ dreams is usually met with middling success by virtue of Casey being less experienced in doing so. He tries to avoid the temptation entirely since appearing in the dreams of people who may recognize him tends to raise questions. However, being able to lull others to sleep has proved rather useful in some circumstances, even though the act often renders Casey lightheaded and fatigued.

Utilizing his second ability, especially in quick succession with his first, can induce bouts of insomnia and night terrors for days afterward.

Appearance

Casey is well aware of his effeminate appearance and embraces it; he likes being pretty. He has a fondness for all things beautiful, even though he could only dream of affording the likes of tailor-made suits and expensive jewelry that so often catch his eye. Regardless, he is content with casual wear so long as it’s comfortable. The young man is also quite proud of his hair and goes to great lengths taking care of it.

Personality

  • Affable.
  • Creative.
  • Energetic.
  • Independent.
  • Observant.
  • Sociable.
Casey is nothing if not a dreamer. He sees the world for what it could be, and he believes that everyone has the capacity to better themselves and the world they inhabit. Yet, Casey understands that most people do not share his visionary perspective and tries not to let that weigh him down.

History

  • Born in Newport, Rhode Island to a small but affluent family, his mother a university professor and his father an officer in the United States Marine Corps, Casey was the younger of two children with an older sister, Blake. With only a year separating them, the two siblings quickly grew close to one another and remained so throughout their early childhood.
  • Casey, much like his mother and sister, exhibited a creative mind and imagination at a young age, but Casey’s father did little to foster it, instead trying to impart more “practical” skills to his only son.
  • In response to his father’s adamant ways and classmates who often bullied him for his less than boyish appearance, Casey learned to escape and express himself through stories. Naturally, one of his favorite places became a local bookstore that was owned by friends of his mother. He and his sister spent countless afternoons there, enjoying the peace and quiet with all manner of books to read.
  • Although Blake accepted and was supportive of Casey’s ever more epicene behavior as they grew older, their parents not. When Casey was fourteen, his father discovered the siblings playing with makeup together and Casey wearing his sister’s clothes; his outrage drove Casey to tears that night, causing a divide to form within the household.
  • For years afterward, Casey struggled with anxiety and insecurities regarding his own sense of self, only really feeling comfortable being himself in his sister’s company.
  • Fortunately, he was able to overcome such challenges over time with Blake’s help; Casey learned to enjoy his years of high school, making countless friends and engaging in several clubs along the way. He even discovered an interest in the likes of sociology and anthropology, making plans to pursue those fields in the future.
  • Because of the year between them, Blake graduated when Casey had just finished his junior year of high school. She and her closest friends had a graduation trip planned—a road trip to Maine—and Casey was the slightest bit disheartened that he couldn’t go with them. Nevertheless, he at least looked forward to hearing from his sister during her trip.
  • Most of the two-week trip went as one might expect with Casey hearing from his sister irregularly yet frequently. Then, on the thirteenth day, Blake stopped answering Casey. Hours passed as Casey’s efforts to reach her went unanswered, too many missed calls and unread messages accumulating in the time elapsed. He quickly went to his parents, but they were also unable to reach Blake. And, by the fourteenth day, neither she nor her friends had returned home.
  • The Keanes did everything within their power and then some to find Casey’s sister and her friends. Days turned to weeks as law enforcement did all they could to find the missing young women, but all they found was Blake’s car, abandoned on some lonesome logging road. Weeks turned to months as the investigation’s focus shifted from missing persons, to kidnapping, to possible homicide before growing cold, leaving Casey utterly devastated.
  • Casey’s senior year began in quiet solemnity, months after his sister’s unexplained disappearance. His classmates and teachers were sympathetic, as was the entire community of Newport, but he was numb to it all.
  • For the first time in his life, Casey’s birthday passed without Blake present, compounding the loss and sorrow. Although the holidays were just around the corner, the Keane household felt colder, more barren than it ever had before.
  • Then, on the eve of December 13th, Casey was visited by a ghastly vision of his sister. Blake cried at his bedside and whispered to him why she had never come home, but Casey couldn’t take it. He screamed and cried until his parents burst into Casey’s bedroom, finding only their son, wide-eyed and irises gleaming a terrified blue.
  • Casey’s parents sought out help for him, but nothing helped. He still saw Blake and heard her when no one else could. Out of desperation, Casey shared what terrible things his sister had told him, and the information was enough to reopen the case of his sister’s disappearance. By New Year’s Eve, law enforcement had apprehended those who kidnapped and murdered Blake and her friends.
  • For Casey’s sake, his parents used their influence to keep the more “controversial” details concerning him out of the local press, but that still didn’t change how Casey had become aware of restless spirits.
  • Despite being visited by Blake and others, Casey returned to everyday life to the best of his ability, graduating high school and studying sociology and anthropology at the local university. Leading an ordinary life proved all but impossible, but Casey learned to cope throughout the years, sometimes even with Blake’s help.
  • Casey had several relationships throughout university, and one such romance happened to be with another psychic; during their time together, Casey’s ability to appear in others’ dreams manifested. While their relationship was short-lived, due in part by a few too many dreaming incidents, his newfound ability remained.
  • Casey graduated with a double major in sociology and anthropology, and he applied his expertise to the nontraditional profession of podcasting; while challenging at first, Casey enjoyed the work and eventually began to earn an income for his efforts.
  • When all the weird news of vampires and shapeshifters took the world by storm, Casey’s supernatural-themed podcasts took off in popularity, and he later decided to move to Mountainside, Colorado, a “hotspot” of activity relevant to his work and interests.
