What You Care to Die For?

After Natalie had found herself a meal and a place to pass out, Dante had wrapped her up in a blanket and hauled her out of the woods. Whatever carcass she had felled had tempted him like the devil, compounding all the stress and relief from the last hour or two. He'd have to make it up to himself the next day or so, something to make peace with his indignant beast. It didn't seem interested in his attempts to convey that things were better this way.

He'd driven back home, and toted one unconscious burrito-wrapped progeny into his apartment. He made no attempt to dress her, but instead laid her down in his unmade bed, draped a shirt and a pair of sweatpants that would all be undoubtedly too big for her on his bed, and left her alone. He was going to have to get some women's clothing in his home for instances like this.

By the time the girl roused from her sleep, Dante would have dinner made with what odds and ends he had in his meager kitchen - four half-priced steaks, warmed up green beans out of cans, instant mashed potatoes from a box. It was no five-star dinner, but it would be good enough. In any case, it had his stomach growling before it was even done.

Waking up in an unfamiliar place was enough to have her creeping open eyes immediately blow open wide. Sitting up with a tugged close blanket, heart hammering. This wasn’t her room, wasn’t her bed, and she didn’t have clothes on. However as the wolf picked up on this burst, the smell of sizzling meat and the familiar one of pack, of Dante, was recognized and she exhaled heavily. Oh, right, she’d shifted. This was probably Dante’s place.

Her gaze flicking across the room eventually went around back to the bed, noticing the clothes laid out. Leaning over with a free hand that grabbed at the material, Natalie slid them over towards her, making quick work of clothing herself. The shirt swallowed her frame and as she stood, the pants seemingly were of the same fate. Stuffing the excess shirt within the band, however, seemed to help them from slipping down. At least that was working out.

Spotting her phone, she took it in hand before opening the door, noting an unread message. A moment to ponder if just staying in here would be best before effectively kicking herself. Just go, get it over with. Taking a breath, Natalie made her way out of the bedroom and towards where the food smells were coming from, eyes landing on Dante soon enough. ”Hi.”

He could hear her shuffling about once she'd woken, and would begin to make her a plate. She came out soon enough, and as she greeted him, he turned to her with a plate extended toward her, fork stuck in the potatoes, knife secured under a slab of meat. "Hi," he returned gruffly, but without malice. "So, what happened?" This as he turned to scrape the rest of the food out of their pots and pans onto his own plate, a bit sloppy in his own hunger.

As he turned towards her a plate of food was offered out that only took a split look until Natalie was taking it from him gratefully. ”Thanks.” The scrapes of metal and plastic followed her as she went to the table, a question from Dante on her heels. Watching the plate she set down with intensity, Natalie scooted out a chair and plopped down.

A light sigh escaped. ”I was buying stuff at a stand and the guy said he needed to go back for some change.” The wood creaked as she shifted to get comfortable, a leg folding up under her. ”And then came back with his dogs.” And that's when things had taken a turn for the worst. Natalie looked over to Dante at this.
