Blind Date! Evelina & Tikanni

#1

Happy Valentine's Day!!!

Thank you for participating in our Valentine's Day event.

Please assume that your character has either already arrived or is being escorted to their table where they will meet their date. After introductions, servers will periodically arrive to describe the shared appetizer, main course, and shared dessert as they are served. Thread progression is up to the players/characters involved. You are in control of when the server arrives to describe each course.

Remember, this entire thread takes place in the dark.

If things go well, let a server know. They'll escort your characters outside together where there will finally be enough light to see each other for the first time. If things go... not so well, your character can request to be escorted out separately and you'll never have to "see" them again.

Meet your date!

She had worn some of her nicer clothes for the night, despite the fact that whoever she got paired up with would not see them. It just mad her comfortable knowing that when, and if, they met, she would be at least some what presentable. Fingers playing with the cloth of the table, Evelina looked before her, obviously seeing nothing, but more than content with the darkness. It didn't bother her, for she knew that if push came to shove, then she could just bring forth her flames, and then there would be light.

It made her smile to think that she was one of the few people possessing some sort of light, the hosts taking away cellphones at the entrance to prevent any misbehaving patrons to ruin the fun for others. Sipping at her requested Rose wine, she waited for her pair to arrive.

As a vampire he was used to the dark, but this was super dark. But it was fun, gave the excuse to meet new people, and well, sadly not partake in the food that had been promised. Overall though, it would be a good change in routine. He'd dressed up a bit, feeling it would be weird to be in anything casual.

Being shown to the table, he sat down and a waft of psychic hit him and yep, Tikanni was glad he'd eaten before. Shuffling a bit into his seat, he blinked, and yeah no light so they were both at odds here. "Hello," he said, breaking up the silence. "How's it hanging?"

She wasn't waiting too long before her partner arrived, the silence of the room making it easy to pick up the sound of footsteps, and the shuffling of another moving to sit at her table. A smile came to her lips then, eager to meet this invisible being, eyes unconsciously widening as they tried so very hard to take in the figure that was supposed to be there, and yet finding nothing.

"Hello." She giggled, placing that it was a man she was currently speaking with. "It is quite different to speak to another while being completely blind, but other than that all is well. She found herself quite nervous at the moment, finding it harder to speak to someone when you could not take in their expressions.

"And you?"

He got a giggly hello and it brought a smile to his face, finding it infectious. The rhythm of her reminded him of maybe Raziyya or Beauregard’s way of speech, formal syntax and such.

Tikanni caught himself nodding in agreement, before catching himself. Right, she couldn’t see that, whoops. ”Yeah, same.” Gripping the table, he took a breath. ”I’m doing fine and dandy. Umm, are we supposed to introduce ourselves? Or is that supposed to be blind too?”

It was then that there was a clearing of a throat that had him looking up into darkness where theoretically there was a waiter. Oh. And to describe the appetizer. Double, oh. Man, that sounded good and yet, no go. But, pumpkin fish had him really curious how that worked. Deep sigh internally. Plates were put down for them with said dish.

Oh yes, introductions were good. It seemed that Evelina was so caught up in her own nervousness that she had lost all manners, and had simply forgotten to give her name. She shook her head at herself, preparing to give said introductions when the waiter arrived, Evelina raising a single brow at all of the pumpkin that was being included in the dish.

She had never actually eaten it before, not even the pie, and so she hoped that it was indeed as good as this man was trying to make it sound. It was once everything was laid down, and thanks was given that Evelinas eyes moved to the boys spot. "I do not believe so, I am Evelina, sorry for the late introduction."

The waiter moved away and the girl explained, yeah, they could say their names. Great! Evelina was a really different name, easy to remember for the same reason.

”You’re fine. I’m Kanni.” Taking the napkin wrap, he undid the silverware. Look, he was moving things around even though he couldn’t eat. Tikanni already felt bad for the chef that was going to see so much food had been wasted.

Laying the cloth across his legs, he picked up the what he thought was a fork. It was in fact a spoon, something he realized as it tapped the plate. No going back. ”So are you from the area?”

It was such a cute name, Evelina couldn't help but grin, undoing her own silverware warily as she felt her away around each silverware, stopping when her fingers came multiple jagged edges and picking the utensil up. She had no hesitation in eating, surprised at how good the pumpkin actually tasted. She had carved a few at the facility, but it had always smelt gross and felt so slimy, how was she supposed to expect them to taste like this!

"It is a pleasure Kanni." She hummed after swallowing down her bite. "I am from Larkspur, so not terribly far, and you?"
Wehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

#9
"You too." His spoon managed to pull apart some fish and y’know what, he really did miss it. Tikanni kept a sigh from escaping, moving the food around. At least Eveline could eat it so someone was enjoying it.

Larkspur was pretty close, he’d been there a few times. ”Oh nice, so you’re a local to Cordova,” he hummed. A click of a spoon. ”I, um, I’m fairly new to the area. I grew up in Alaska.”

Oh he meant from from, not like, living now, but was born.

Oops.

"Oh no, sorry I misunderstood. I am actually from Russia originally." She corrected with a slight wave of her hand, feeling a bit stupid when she realized that the man would not see it, and placed them back down to the table. "When did you move here from Alaska then?" She didn't hold too much knowledge about the cold state, other than the fact that it was near Canada, and larger than the 'Everything's big in' Texas.

Fancy that knowledge, they were not the biggest state as they seemed to believe.

Oh, she’d meant where in Cordova she lived. That should’ve made sense, but he had just assumed. He could easily say Lavender Heights, but now they were going down this route and whoops.

”Sorry, I misunderstood, but that’s cool! I’ve never met anyone from there.”

Her accent, way of speech even, was cleared up for him with that information. He spooned the fish around in the attempt to make it at least look like he tried it.

”I live in Lavender Heights and uh, moved here about a year ago.”

There wasn't too much left on the plate now, Evelina's lip just pouting a bit at this fact. There would be more sure, but she had found that she rather liked the appetizer that was given to her. She wanted more. Boo.

"How are you liking it so far? I imagine it is quite different than Alaska?" Sure they were both cold, but if the television had taught her anything, it was that Alaska was wild. Bears and moose around every corner, and snow that locked you indoors for days. Pretty though, very pretty.

That had him smiling. ”I like it. It took some adjusting, but there’s cool things here.” There was still a lot of wilderness and snow, but most importantly, he actually had a group of friends to lean on that were like him which was super neat.

Putting the spoon down, he gave up the attempt to pretend to eat it. It was just an appetizer right?

”How ‘bout you? Russia’s really far away, I’m sure it’s super different.”

With that the waiter came up and took their plates before announcing the main course. Surprise! It was fish again. ;3;

She couldn't see his face, but she could hear the happiness that seemed to enter his voice when speaking about his new home. It brought a smile to her own face, happy that things were working out for the man. She found that she rather liked it here as well, much better than dumb old Michigan, there were interesting places around every corner, and even more interesting people.

As Kannie asked about her own country, the waiter arrived once more, interrupting her answer for the second time. It was almost as if he were timing it all perfectly just so she couldn't speak! Evenlina gave him a soft glare that she knew he wouldn't see, pacified by the fact that there would be more food before her in just a moment. It smelled amazing, Evelina already eager to just dig in.

Question first though.

"I actually lived in Michigan for quite some time before coming here, so I have had more than enough time to understand the way America works." Some things still were complex to the red headed girl, but having spent more of her life here, she supposed that she would find more things in Russia difficult now.

"I find that this place is much better though, Michigan was just a bit too plain for me."

Plates were set down, but he listened intently to what his date had to say. Michigan was a different place. He’d never been there. What was in Michigan?

”Michigan is different. Why’d you live there first?” Perhaps, it was family?

The wafting of food was hard not to smell. This time he grabbed for a fork and found out quite quickly it was the knife within the first tap. Whelp, Tikanni set that down and got the right utensil.
Wehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

She had taken a bite when she had finished speaking, grateful for the fact that she had yet to place her utensil down, and now did not have to spend the time searching for it in the dark. It took her a few moments to swallow the food before she could answer, but once she was clear of any garbled talk, she spoke.

"I was sent there at a young age for correctional purposes. My parents believed it would be better for me in America, although I personally feel as if it would have been the same in either country." She didn't suffer from being a pyromaniac, she just had the ability to summon it! Who cared if she enjoyed to watch it burn as well.
Wehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Correctional purposes had him furrowing his brows as he tore apart the fish slowly. He followed her explanation along. That was heavy. How do you follow that up? Tikanni could ask about it, but it felt rude. But also, he really wanted to know why.

Biting his lip, he chose the second thing which he was also zeroing on because of family things. ”Did they not come with you here?”
Wehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Quote

#18
There was a shake of her head, but she quickly remember that Kanni could not see this.

"Oh no, I suppose it would have been much to hard for all of us to leave." Plus, she would have still been living in a separate house anyways, and so it wouldn't have made much difference if they had come or not. "Do you see your parents often Kanni?" She asked, more than happy to divert to conversation to perhaps a lighter topic, for while it didn't bother her, she didn't want the man thinking to much into her words."
Wehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Tikanni tilted his head some, a frown taking place. That was really sad to hear.

”I’m sorry to hear.”

And then asking about his parents had him biting a lip. There were presences, but not faces, or names, really. Just mainly his sire. This had suddenly gotten super personal and sad and he was sorry Evelina.

”Nope, I haven’t seen them in a long time. We kinda drifted apart. But, that's alright. I've got a self-made family here," he smiled.
Wehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

She frowned a bit, but otherwise remained silent as Kanni continued on, giving her head a slight nod. It seemed he was in the same boat, apparently American parents just as selfish as Russian ones. At the mention of his new family, a smile reappeared, her heart truly happy to hear that the man was not completely alone.

"Sometimes the family you make turns out to be better than the one you are born with." She answered, taking a sip of her wine.

#21
What she said, he saw where it was coming from and just decided to let the topic continue onward and away. No use bringing up how that really didn’t work for him. It did however work in regards to his sire. Good riddance, dude.

”Definitely. They usually aren’t a bunch of bushwa bluenoses,” Tikanni agreed with a smile.

Evelina typically prided herself with her knowledge of the English language. In fact, she would say that she was fluent in it, but when it came to things such as 'slang' or abbreviations, she truly struggled. This meant that Kannis comment flew right over her little red head and landed somewhere far far off.

"Uh, I apologize, but what is-" She paused, repeating the words in her mind so that she might say it correctly. "bunshwa blunos?"

HUh, what?
Wehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Quote

#23
Oh, ohhhhh, ohhhhhhh, oh. Oops. Her try to say the words back had him tickled and Tikanni couldn’t help to laugh a tad.

”Sorry, yeah, it’s an old expression.”

A hand came up to scratch the back of his head. The first one meant bullshit, truly, but that didn’t seem appropriate to say aloud because of the setting.

”Bushwa means, I guess, uh…. Nonsense would be a good word for it. And bluenose is someone who is boring and kinda breaks up any fun that happens.” He hoped that made sense.
Wehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Quote

#24
The saying was still a bit confusing to her, but she had found that many American sayings turned out to be that way, making very little sense when said alone. She would nod her head however, as if she understood everything that was being said, hands moving to bring the glass of wine to her lips. "Well, that is certainly good."" She hummed, she wasn't quite sure what else to say on the matter, and so she simply took another sip from her glass.
Wehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Quote

#25
Hopefully, that'd made sense. There was no way to really tell and it seemed they were moving on with agreement from her.

In the need to fill in the gap after several moments of quiet, he spoke up with a question. "Have you done anything cool lately?"
Wehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Quote

#26
Unfortunately, Evelinas life had been pretty boring as of late, excluding her finding another with powers as she did, but that wasn't something she could just tell this boy. Shaking her head, Evelina corrected herself with a slight cough. "Unfortunately I have not had anything remarkable happen on my end." She gave a soft sigh of pity. "Hopefully it has not been the same on your part?"
Wehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Quote

#27
The cough was worrisome. What if she was getting sick????

Oh, she hadn't had anything notable happening lately. Life was like that sometimes and he shrugged. "It happens." But, then for him, yeah, there'd be a lot a going on on his side of things. What Evelina could know about though severely cut it down.

"I helped a friend make a dress recently, but other than that, nope. It's been a pretty lackadaisy few weeks."
Wehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Quote

#28
Oh?

She had never made clothing before, it immediately caught her interest, especially since this man didn't exactly sound as if he was the type.

"And how was that? Did you find it terribly difficult?"
Wehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Quote

#29
This was a topic he could easily delve into. Tikanni leaned against the table, more so forward.

"Nah, she had most of it done by then. It was pretty fun." There was a smile to his voice, thinking of the projects he'd done earlier for Marybeth, Abel, and Scout, and of course a variety of others in the years past. "It was a different method than I'm used to. I usually knit stuff instead, aha."
Wehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Quote

#30
He knit too!?!

Color Evelina impressed, smiling at the obvious excitement in his voice. "I would not even know where to begin with anything in the realm of either sewing or knitting." She answered taking a sip of her wine, which was now almost gone. Boo. "Where did you learn such talents?"
Wehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Quote

#31
"It's just one of those things you gotta pick up and keep trying." One stitch at a time. And a whole lot of time on your hands really did help.

As for where he'd learned it, it was a bit hard to remember exactly where or when. "I think I picked it up when I was a kid. Kinda just ran with it since then."
Wehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Quote

#32
"Perhaps I will try it out on day then" She conceded, although she doubted she actually ever would. Supplies for that sort of thing was just too expensive, and honestly between work and her researching, she had very little time to spare.

"So do you often help your friends create clothes? Or was this one of those rare occasions?"
Wehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Quote

#33
Cool, he really hoped she did. It could be really therapeutic and kept the hands busy which helped a lot if someone was feeling restless. "You def should," he beamed in agreement. Maybe in the future she'd pick up some yarn.

As for if he helped others usually... "It's not a regular thing, though I wouldn't mind. I like helping others when I can."
Wehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Quote

#34
"It is a good characteristic to have, not many are so willing to help others." It was a sad fact, but very much true. Most people tended to look out for themselves first and foremost.

"Your friends are truly blessed to have you around." A yawn would break as she finished the sentence, the night getting a bit late for her, so used to waking up at the crack of dawn to tend to all the animals at the Zoo.
Wehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Quote

#35
It was a lot of praise he wasn't really fishing for, but it was nice. Tikanni smiled some even though she couldn't see as much. "Thanks, I try."

And then he heard her yawn and it brought attention to how late it must be for someone after a long workday. "You tired?"
